A strong-willed young woman, Anna tries to preserve her family legacy while facing the growing precarity of her island community. Torn between the need to sell her ancestral land and her deep attachment to her roots, she has a close yet conflicted relationship with her deaf-mute father, Victor. Her romantic relationship with Fabio helps her gain perspective, although social and family tensions threaten their balance.
An aging, deaf-mute fisherman, Victor is deeply rooted in Azorean traditions. A powerless witness to the destruction of his world through tourism and the decline of fishing, he clings to a mythical vision of the ocean. His bond with his daughter Anna—built on silence and gestures—is shaken by the sale of the family land, creating a painful rift between them despite unwavering love.
Anna’s partner, Fabio is a clear-sighted and kind worker employed by the developer of the tourist resort. He sincerely loves Anna and helps her navigate her inner conflicts, offering an external perspective on the dilemma between modernity and tradition. His calm demeanor contrasts with the family tensions, though their relationship is tested by the complexity of Anna’s decisions.
